In My Happy Garden

So the weekends project was to plant a garden. We decided to do garden boxes to hopefully control the weeds (which you can see we are having a problem with.) We have a field behind our house and the weeds just spread like wild. Being city folk we are still learning what works and what doesn't. The garden project took us all day on Saturday and then we planted last night for family night. We will see how we do. If the garden stays alive as long as my house plants do I will give it two weeks. :)

TTA-My Graduation

Okay so I am really behind and I have so much to catch up on. Here is a TTA from early June.

My graduation day was a funny day. Well it was not funny that day but as I look back at it I think it is hilarious. On my graduation day I locked the keys in my car... on the highway... while it was running.

So here is how it went down. My parents came into town the day of my graduation from Colorado. My graduating class was pretty big and we held the graduation downtown Las Vegas at the Thomas and Mack Center so every guest had to have a ticket. It was getting late in the day and my graduation was to start in a few hours. My Mom and Dad had not made it to the house yet to get their tickets and I was supposed to be at the ceremony an hour early. When they still didn't make it there I finally had to leave to get down town. I started down the highway and I saw them comming so I flipped the car around, caught them and we pulled over to the side of the road. I put the car in park, grabbed their tickets, opened the door, got out, and by habit locked the door. I immediately realized what I had done and started freaking out. My Dad didn't have a key but my boyfriend did. So we drove to his house, he was waiting on my to pick him up anyway, got the key and had to drive back to my car to unlock it. By this time I was frustrated, stressed and late. I didn't have any time to take any pictures of the day with my parents or anything.


The ceremony was long and boring as most of them are. I was proud that I graduated with honors especially since I had no idea that I was going to. I was so oblivious to school and grades. I knew I got good grades but I didn't know anything about GPA's or whatever and I didn't know it was a big deal. I took a lot of honors classes and I graduated with a weighted GPA of 4.23. Who knew!! I also received an award for Language Arts Student of the Year. I almost didn't go to the awards ceremony because I had to go alone with no family and I thought it would be dorky.


I was sad to graduate. I loved high school and I have great memories. It was exciting to graduate but it was bitter sweet becuase the next day I had to leave town, and my friends, and move back to Colorado with my parents. That was rough and I didn't want to go.

Ashlee's Assembly Performance

Two weeks ago Ashlee was called into the Principals office. He asked her why she didn't try out for the talent assembly and when she told him that she didn't have time to try out he told her that she "would be in it". So the night before the assembly she picked a song...finally.

The next day she was hardly nervous at all and she got out there in front of the entire school and it was awesome. After the assembly the Principal came up to me and said that he has been at the middle school level for 26 years. He said in all his years of teaching he has never heard anyone sing like that.

Okay so I know I am partial becuase she is mine, but seriously I was blown away by Ashlee's performance in her schools year end assembly. Here is the link to watch it on you tube.

On A Roll

On Tuesday we went to Ashlee's Honor Roll Awards Night. She did a great job this year and only missed having straight A's for the entire year by one B. I think the B was good for her. She is so stressed all the time making sure that she gets all of her homework done and that everything is perfect. It was a good lesson for her to learn that getting a B isn't the end of the world. Sometimes you have to pace yourself and get some balance in things. I am so proud of her for always doing such a great job in everything that she does.

TTA- Home Town Hangouts

This is a good topic for today becuase it is making me reflect on the reasons why I love this town. Today I need a reminder since I woke up to snow. Yes I said it SNOW! Did mother nature not get the MAY MEMO. It is supposed to be spring for crying out loud. Looking over some pictures of the area for this TTA however, I am so grateful to live in such a wonderful, beautiful place!

So here are my favorites:

Place to Grab Lunch- El Jimador (I give thanks for all the Mexicans that live here because them folks know how to cook up some good eatin'!!) They have this great cabbage stuff that they serve along with their chips and salsa. Yummy!!

Go for Date Night- Fishing!! I live about 2 minutes from a fishing lake. The best part of it is that is overlooks the city and I can see Target while I fish and that makes me smile. But we also can go 20 minutes to Ridgway and fish and then eat at this awesome BBQ restaurant called "The Doghouse".

Buy Some Creative Goodies- The Boardwalk Antique Shops. They have so many fun things to look at. That is where I got Ashlee's lockers that I made into shelves.

Keep the Kids Busy- One Word SCHOOL!! Okay so I have a 13 year old. She is not easily entertained. Most of her outtings require a lot of patience and a lot of cash. This is why I love her school. They come up with the outtings for me. She loves her school! This year they have done several things. Her favorite was when the rented the movie theatre and the entire 7th grade spent the morning at the movies, went back to school for lunch, and then walked to Dairy Queen in the afternoon for ice cream. She also loves the fact that the Jr. Highs in this town get to participate in competitive sports even away. She loves the all day track meets with the hour buss ride there and back.

Buy A Treat- Do I have to list just one place. I am not picky with my treats, but I think if I had to choose one place it would definitely be Cold Stone. Yummy!!

Shop for Fun- Target. This town is very small and Target is the latest

addition, so I am guessing it is everyones favorite here since the other choice is Wal-Mart. YUCK!

Fresh Air- Black Canyon. It is so fun to go down to the bottom. It is beautiful. The dogs can swim, and we can enjoy the river too.

The drive to the bottom is scarey but way worth it!!

Get Away for the Weekend- Ouray. (The Switzerland of America) It is the most beautiful place and each time I go there I am amazed at how awesome it is. They have a hot springs pool, hiking, waterfalls, cute shops. It is so fun there!
